Pistol Shrimp: Tiger
| Latin Name |
Alpheus sp. |
| Common Name |
Pistol Shrimp: Tiger |
| Also known as |
Tiger Stripe Pistol Shrimp, Symbiosis Shrimp |
| Fast Facts |
This attractive Pistol Shrimp is generally colored with alternating tan and white bands. Pistol Shrimps are also known as "symbiosis" shrimps from the mutually beneficial relationship the shrimp has with gobies. The goby, with better eyesight, warns the shrimp of predators, and the shrimp shares its food with the goby. Like all shrimps, they require careful acclimation. Sensitive to changes in specific gravity and pH, always acclimate slowly.
IMPORTANT ACCLIMATION NOTES
Shrimps often molt when shipped. The molt is such an exact duplicate of the shrimp that it is easily mistaken for a dead shrimp! ANY SHRIMP THAT MOLTS DURING SHIPPING SHOULD BE ACCLIMATED VERY SLOWLY OVER SEVERAL HOURS WITH DRIP METHOD ACCLIMATION. Again, molting in transit is not unusual, nor is it preventable. Don't be alarmed if this happens, but ACCLIMATE VERY SLOWLY.
