This gorgeous species has a cult following! The males of this species, like most of the fairy wrasses, is much more attractive than the females (as a result, females are rarely collected). Being protogynous hermaphrodites, pairs or groups sold in the trade will consist of "more colorful" and "less colorful" specimens, not textbook male/female examples. Scott's Fairy Wrasses rarely if ever looks like the photo shown-- the "red spot" is always much less vivid. Nonetheless, they're one of the most attractive species available. Generally a great community fish with a passive disposition. The Australian Scott's Fairy Wrasse is even more more impressive.
