Orange Shoulder Tang

Orange Shoulder Tang

Latin Name Acanthurus olivaceus
Common Name Orange Shoulder Tang
Also known as Orange Shoulder Surgeonfish
Fast Facts PHOTO NOTE
The photo is an underwater shot of a very large, mature adult specimen. Specimens seen in the trade DO NOT look like this shot, which is a funky underwater photo of a specimen larger than you'll ever see in an aquarium, but it's still a popular fish.

Most available specimens are smaller juveniles which are yellow. As this species grows it begins to show a hint of the adult color pattern, becoming slightly more greenish-gray with the darker real half. The orange "shoulder" mark develops only as the fish matures. A great reef fish, be sure to provide this active fish plenty of swimming room, as well as ample hiding places.
