One of the most sought after puffers, this distinctive, undescribed species of Arothron is collected only from the Solomon Islands and is rarely seen in the trade. Be sure to grab one immediately when available as they sell in a instant. This puffer is jet black with a little gray around the fins eyes and mouth. When first introduced into the aquarium this is a shy species, requiring a large tank with plenty of shelter and peaceful tankmates to adapt. A tank containing typical puffer tankmates such as other puffers triggers and other bold feeders may intimidate the Black Dogface Puffer. Do not keep this fish in smaller quarantine tanks, it does not like confined spaces and will never adapt in such a situation. Does great once adjusted to the aquarium, just keep in mind they are very shy initially, and be prepared for a long wait in obtaining one! |
