Primarily collected from Hawaii, this gorgeous species readily acclimates to captivity and is a great community aquarium fish. Highly recommended for the medium to bold community aquarium. Once fully adjusted to the aquarium, this is a bold, curious species whose personality may be too much for overly passive fish, or fish introduced to the tank after it has become established. Only keep one individual per aquarium and provide plenty of swimming room. This hogfish is very easy to feed and they will eat motile invertebrates such as small crabs, etc. Juveniles are part-time cleaners and will practice their craft in the home aquarium.

Very easy to feed. Feed a varied diet of meaty foods. Include frozen preparations for carnivores and fresh seafoods.

Smaller individuals usually do not cause many problems in the reef aquarium, but as they grow they are a potential threat to snails, worms, and ornamental crustaceans.
