This great aquarium fish is a member of the family Microdesmidae, which are often referred to as Firefish or dartfishes. It is creamy on the front of the body and orange or reddish-orange on the rear of the body and the dorsal, anal and tail fins. There is also some yellow on the head. It that should be housed with other passive species. If kept with pugnacious or larger, hyperactive tankmates, it will hide and not feed. This species is rarely aggressive towards other bottom-dwelling fishes. Keeping more than one of these fish per tank can be risky in smaller tanks, as one will often pick on the other(s). Firefish can jump from open tanks. |
