The yellowmouth moray is one of the most amazing members of this family! The color changes somewhat as it grows. As a juvenile, it has numerous, small spots all over the body. As this eel grows the spots on the posterior part of the body become smaller, while towards the head some of the spots disappear while others increase in size. The characteristic yellow mouth is thought to warn potential predators of its toxic slime. It is not one of the more aggressive morays and can be kept with other eels. It will eat fish tankmates it can swallow whole. This species will fast on occasion, sometimes for weeks or even months. However, you should keep trying to feed the eel, changing the types of food you present. It will usually begin feeding as suddenly as it quit.
