| Fast Facts |
The juveniles of this species have alternating pale and black or dark brown bands, with teeth are conical and rounded. As the banded moray grows the bands become more obscure, while its teeth become more flattened and pebble-like. It is suitable for the home aquarium if provided with live crustaceans, especially small fiddler crabs. With time and persistence it is possible to switch some individuals over to fresh crustacean and fish flesh. Provide this moray with numerous holes and crevices to refuge – this will ensure that it acclimates and does not jump out of the aquarium. This species can be kept with fishes that are to large to swallow (it is less likely to eat fish tankmates than many other morays). It will eat ornamental crustaceans. They may spend more time in the open in a dimly-lit tank. Like all morays, prone to leaping from holes in the tank top.
