Jackknife

Latin Name Equetus lanceolatus
Common Name Jackknife
Also known as Jackknife fish, High Hat
Fast Facts AVAILABILITY NOTE
This fish is not particularly rare, however, it is not often available, and not a popular species. Contact us is you're serious about getting one. The window of opportunity to get one when available is small, so jump on them fast.

The jackknife fish belongs to the drum family. It has a very elongate dorsal fin with a black band that runs from the tip to the end of the tail. There are also two other black bands, one on the head and one that extends onto the pelvic fin. This handsome fish must be housed alone, or with other VERY peaceful species if it is to acclimate to aquarium life. You will also need to avoid keeping it with food competitors. They are secretive and shy and will need plenty of suitable hiding places. This species is indifferent toward its tankmates, including members of its own kind. Provide a large tank with plenty of hiding places.
