The highhat is in the drum family. The members of this family are known to make a drumming sound with muscles attached to the swim bladder. It has black stripes running along the body and black fins. The dorsal fin is not as high as its close relative, the jackknife fish (Equetus lanceolatus). This species is hardier than the E. lanceolatus. However, it still needs to housed on its own or with ***ONLY other very peaceful species if it is to acclimate to aquarium life.**** You will also need to avoid keeping it with food competitors. It is secretive and shy and will need plenty of suitable hiding places.
