This beautiful species is very difficult to keep alive. The males are a brilliant purple with a dark purple spot on the posterior part of the base of the dorsal fin, yellow on the throat, the abdomen and thorax. Females have a yellow stripe down the back and yellow bands on the upper and lower caudal lobes. In order to successfully keep it, it is necessary to feed them live, vitamin-enriched food three to five times in a day. Also it is imperative that you keep them with peaceful tankmates. Keeping a group of females and a single male may also increase your chances of success, if you are willing to put in the time and money to make sure they get enough to eat. Provide clean, well oxygenated water, along with plenty of water movement and open swimming space.
at least three times a day, as well as color enhancing foods. This species is prone to color loss, therefore, it is important to feed it a diet high in carotenoids.
