This unique angelfish lives among floating masses of Sargassum algae. They have long skin flaps on the body and brown and yellow mottling which enable them to better blend with their botanical raft. It can be kept in the aquarium without the algae with which it associates. Like all the other anglerfishes, it will swallow any tankmates of similar size, including other anglers. This is the case will all species of anglers/frogfishes. It will eat also ornamental crustaceans. This species is a pelagic spawner, have been known to reproduce in captivity. Eggs are laid in scroll-like egg raft.
