Assorted Angler

Assorted Angler

Latin Name Antennarius spp.
Common Name Assorted Angler
Also known as Assorted Frogfish
Fast Facts This designation is given to individuals representing a number of different anglerfish species (including the coin-bearing anglerfish, Antennarius nummifer and the scarlet anglerfish, A. coccineus). The "assorted anglerfish" are less colorful than Colored Anglers. These fishes are gluttons and will eat any tankmate that will fit in their mouths, including those equal or even slightly greater in length. They will even eat venomous fishes. Some specimens can be trained to take pieces of seafood off of a feeding stick, but live food is often necessary to induce a feeding response. They will also eat ornamental shrimp. Do not keep any angler with curious fishes such as triggerfish or large type wrasses, as this fish will pick at the angler as if it were food.
