#1 QUESTION REGARDING THIS FISH
The fist question we get is "which is nicer, a Red Sea Emperor or a Christmas Island Emperor. Having seen plenty of both over the past 20 years, our answer is always the same. "They're generally indistinguishable in person. The only difference is in photos. You may have noticed our Christmas Island Empreror photo was taken in an aquariunm while The Red Sea Emperor shot is an underwater photo. Photographs are where you'll see the biggest difference, in person you can't tell them apart, they're both very nice.

Emperors Angels from the Red Sea are often regarded as the ultimate Emperor Angel (because they're had the most written about them). They are rarely collected there at less than around 6". Most specimens are in the 6"-9" range, larger being more often available. These are usually referred to in the trade as "Orange Tail Emperor", although we don't like to tout then as such. The tail and overall color is more intense than those from other areas, perhaps due to the consistently excellent handling our specimens receive. Remember, if you want an emperor angel less than 6", you need the regular Emperor Angelfish.

In this magnificent fish there is a color difference between the juvenile and adult specimens. Juveniles of this species have white concentric rings on a dark blue body. Adults have alternating blue and yellowish green lines on the body, a yellow tail a black eye mask and a black band around the pectoral fins. Transforming individuals (sometimes referred to as "teenagers") are occasionally seen in the aquarium trade as well. Juveniles and small adults are good aquarium inhabitants; larger specimens can also do well, but require expert handling and should be kept only by experienced aquarists. Like most angels, larger specimens begin feeding more cautiously, but can do well in the proper hands. Provide this species with plenty of unencumbered swimming rooms as well as several suitable places to take shelter when threatened. Do not keep juveniles together, or with any other juveniles of this genus that are similar in general color.
